Our Mission
Our Mission
Support the children and teens in Brasilito, while teaching values and skills to make them productive members of our community.
Today, we regularly help 70 children in the area with an average daily attendance of 20.
What We Do
From Monday through Friday, we provide a safe space for children to congregate before and after school (in Costa Rica, the public school system operates on 2 “shifts” with half the students going to class in the morning, and half going in the afternoon). Most of these children are from single-parent low-income households and go home to empty houses during the day. The Center offers a safe place for these children to play and study when they are not in school.
We provide a nutritionally balanced meal for every child. For many of these children, this is the only nutritionally balanced meal they receive each day.
We provide a Bible lesson each day to reinforce the values and moral character of each child.
We working with to community volunteers to provide songs, games, additional classroom lessons in English and Spanish, math, music and other skills to engage and educate the children.
We try to support the families of these children with donations of food, clothing and other supplies in times of extreme need. Additionally, One Heart Brasilito has helped coordinate the donation and construction of a number of “casitas”, or small houses, to help protect families in the community on the brink of homelessness.
